The Church in the Modern Era
I know what Christ has to offer, but what about the Church?
In what ways is church important today?
What is, "The Church"?
Greek "Ekklesia" meaning those called out.
The people of God! Not the building they meet in.
(1 Corinthians 6:19) Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.
The Church's success or failure in meeting its commission depends on its people.
The Church assures us and the world that there is hope for everyone!
What is hope? The desire for an expectation to be or become true.
How does the church assure us that we should be filled with hope?
(Romans 5:5) And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
The Church helps us find Truth and share it with others!
What is truth? The reality and factual essence of a matter.
(John 17:17) Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
The Church helps us discover righteous values!
What is righteous? Morally right in thought, deed, and principle.
What are values? Those principles we hold as dear and important.
Those basic ideas and principles that are required to live a Godly life.
(John 9:31) We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will.
The Church helps us live by God's Standards!
What are standards? Minimum acceptable code of conduct.
Those ways of doing things that are approved by God.
(Isaiah 55:9) "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Is the Church needed as much today as it was in the old days?
(2 Peter 3:3) First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.
God is eternal and doesn't change.
(1 Timothy 1:17) Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
(Hebrews 13:8) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
You, the Church, must be a living example.
(John 13:14-17) Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
(1 Peter 2:21-22) To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."
The seven Churches of Revelation 2 and 3.
All religions good?
All churches good?
God has commanded us to be a church and to meet each Sabbath
(Lev 23:3 NIV) "'There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.
(Heb 10:25 NIV) Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
What does assembling together do?
Helps us to take our place in the church and do the work he has for us to do.
So, Is the Church needed as much today as it was in the old days?
Absolutely and maybe even more as we approach the end of the age.
